Clarence Gerdeen, speaking at his 50th wedding anniversary service. His son, Jim, was leading a request to the audience for anyone to speak about their memories of Clarence and Barbara. Several people already had, but there was a slight lull in volunteers so Clarence stood up and spoke:

If nobody wants to talk, I'll talk.

Laughter from others was heard.

Clarence then said:

You want somebody else?

Jim said:

That's ok, you go ahead. You can talk.

Clarence continued:

You know, I belong to the lay renewal team and we travel over different states. We just came back from Wilmer, Minnesota. In our lay renewal team, we ask people, If you had three desires in your life, what would they be? And my desire is, the first one, that I should know the Lord Jesus Christ more truly by reading the word, and [through] preaching. We know that we are all ministers of the Gospel. We have shepherds that set aside like Jim, Pastor Magnuson, Odland, but we are ministers of the Gospel. So we have to be in the Word.

And the second wish that I have is that I continue in the Word, that I might be His disciple. That I might know the truth and the truth will make us free.

And the third desire is that all my grandchildren will know my Saviour. And everyone that meets me that I will never be ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of salvation to everyone that believes.

I have been in the Word now pert near for 30 years, and I remember lots of Scripture and that is something that they cannot take away from you. When you are in the Word, you know the way, the truth and the light, cause Jesus said so.
